OSHA/NFPA 30 standards focus on structural design requirements, such as double-walled steel construction and specific latching mechanisms. In contrast, European standard EN 14470-1 evaluates performance in direct fire tests. Under EN 14470-1, cabinets are rated based on the time it takes for the interior temperature to rise by 180 Kelvins in a simulated fire (typically Type 15, 30, 60, or 90 minutes). As a flexible ODM manufacturer, we configure our fabrications to meet either standard depending on project requirements.
Ventilation is not strictly required by NFPA 30 unless local fire marshals mandate it or toxic, highly offensive vapors are present. However, if a cabinet is not ventilated, its vent openings must be sealed with the original metal bungs. If ventilation is installed, the system must exhaust directly to the outdoors using metal piping, and must not compromise the fire protection integrity of the unit.
Grounding prevents electrostatic discharge, which can ignite volatile chemical vapors during transfer operations. Our custom ODM cabinets include built-in grounding lugs. EHS teams should connect these lugs to the facility's main electrical ground to dissipate static charge safely.
Standard steel cabinets with epoxy coatings may degrade when exposed to strong acids. For corrosive materials, we apply polyethylene shelf liners, utilize specialized composite coatings, or fabricate internal structures with high-grade stainless steel to ensure long-term containment integrity.
